Paris Day 4! Museum to museum to another museum
We started our day out today at Saint Chapelle, which is a Gothic royal chapel built in the 1200s which is actually insane to think about. The inside is painted to look like how it would have when it was first built, which is bright colors and rich tones. I didn’t know what to expect but it was actually incredible going up inside. There is stained glass windows all around, and each panel tells a different bible story! It was fun to try and guess which bible story each told (we were not very good at it at all). McKinley took another incredible picture of me shout out to her😽
After Sainte Chapelle we headed to see Notre Dame! I so wish that we would have been able to go inside, but it was still fun to be able to look at it and talk about Gothic architecture. We also saw some awesome street music right outside! France is so cool.
Right next to Notre Dame is a French Holocaust memorial. I didn’t take any pictures, but it was built into the ground with white stone, and you walked down inside of it. It was silent down there, and there were rooms to go inside to read about people’s experiences in Nazi camps. It is important to me to know the history and learn about the Holocaust, especially because of my ancestry, but it is definitely hard to be in those places some times.
After the Holocaust memorial we started walking to a park that was close by to the museum we were going to. On the way we passed this street where there is book vendors! The stalls close and lock when it isn’t open, and then they just lift them up when they’re ready! I wish I would have had time to stop and browse. The park was super pretty though and we got to do some nice lounging even though it was pretty windy.
The first museum we went to was Musée de L’Orangerie. It has a beautiful exhibit of Monet’s Water Lilies (which if you ready my school blogs you already know all about) and it was absolutely stunning. You were just surrounded by them. I even matched with my awesome tote bag! It was supposed to be quiet in there, but unfortunately there was quite a bit of noise.
Here’s some pictures of some other artworks I liked or thought were intriguing! The museum had a lot of Impressionism.
There was also this one exhibit that was all white “artworks.” I say "artworks" because there was one piece in there that was literally just a bunch of different sized blank canvases called “No title required” ?????????? I will never understand art like that. Not my cup of tea, especially after all of the incredible things we’ve seen.
After we finished in there we headed to the Musee d’Orsay. We were tasked to find Bethe Morisot, a woman impressionist painter (who you should also already know about because you read all of my blogs right??) and it took FOREVER. But we did see some pretty cool things while we were at it.
After that museum, Marie, Sienna, Audrey, and I all headed to the Marche des Enfants Rouge, which is the oldest food market in Paris. We got some delicious sandwiches and crepes from Chez Alain Miam Miam (which i think is supposed to be yum yum?? Say it out loud!) and then we walked to this park by the next museum we were going to to eat. My sandwich had fallen completely apart by the end, mom style.
The last museum we went to was the Musee de Arts et Metiers which is a science museum about science and inventions throughout history. I got to see the real life original calculator which was kinda sick (it’s the one in the middle), and some other cool little exhibits as well. Abby and I made a space rover and named him Jacques. He’s pretty cute.
And that’s about it! It was a LONG day. Museums are pretty exhausting especially when you go to three of them. And then I still needed to do my school blog post. Soo here’s a pic of me headed to do that at 12:30am haha. We love being 20 in Europe staying up all night long!
