Madrid Day 3! Holy Toledo!

Surprise surprise! Another early morning! Today we headed off to Toledo, at 7:30am, but I was actually really excited! It is a medieval Spanish town with a lot of cool architecture and beautiful views.

Our first stop was the Toledo Cathedral which was beautiful, but it was sooo cold outside. They had us standing in the shade for 20 minutes while they lectured and it was so windy. And there was sunshine like 20 feet away :'( Spain was supposed to be hot! But I digress.

The inside was also beautiful (and also cold HAHA these big old stone buildings are always quite drafty).

Next we went to see one of El Greco's really famous works, which was very cool.

Then we headed into the Jewish quarters of town and got to see some synagogues which was really cool. There were these little Jewish tiles everywhere in the street which I thought were wonderful. There were also some really pretty views so of course we had to take a stop for those.

After the synagogues it was time for lunch and we got empanadas which were sooo yum.

Our next food was not so good. We had some very disappointing gelato in comparison to yesterday's and the service was also bleh. I was up first and I asked if I could sample something and she said yes, but just one sample. So I was like okay yes I kind of expected that, that's how most places are nowadays. And she told me again, and said "just one in general." And I said yes okay I get it. So I tried the gelato and was still trying to decide what I wanted, and then Marie asked for a sample and the lady said no, there's just one sample "in general." So one sample per GROUP. Huh?!? We were so confused. Because also the sample I got was TINY. Not even a full tasting spoon, maybe a quarter of it, so it wasn't shareable. Anyways that was kinda crazy and then the gelato was not even good. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

After gelato we just kind of wandered around kind of in search of sunshine. Molly, Audrey, and I found this really beautiful little lookout and we hung out there for a bit until it was time to meet back up with the rest of the group at a monastery.

El Pratt gave us a scavenger hunt to do in the monastery so Theresa and I teamed up for that and had so much fun running around trying to find everything! The winner got cookies so we were very motivated. There were a few other people who found everything but we did it fastest so we claimed the champion title (but I think that there were some people who wanted to contest it haha). But we did share our cookies with everyone of course! They were angel's hair cookies which is a type of like pumpkin jam I guess? It was slightly sweet and the pumpkin was white and shredded. They were pretty yum.

We stopped at one last synagogue on our way back that was in a pretty place.

After the last synagogue it was time to head back to Madrid, but we found the best lookout on our way to the train station, so of course we had to stop for a few minutes and take some beautiful pictures.

We got back to the hotel around 7pm so it was a very long day, but holy toledo I loved toledo! (that one's for george)
