Brussels Day 2! I've now decided I'm moving to Belgium
We started off the day by heading to Bon Secours church, which is another gothic church that was beautiful as always. We talked about the women representations we saw on the church that represent the virtues.
We walked some more and ended up at the palace of justice, where we talked about Marie Popelin (read my post about her to learn more!)
On the way to the train station found this sandwich!
We did some more walking (lots of walking to sites today) to the European history museum to do an audio guided tour. The museum went from the very beginning of Europe on the bottom floor to more modern times. My favorite was the floor from the 60s ish with a fun little retro TV and also a wall full of books.
We took a break for lunch and all went in our own ways. Marie, Audrey, Annie, Betsy, Ellie, and I went to carrefour express (chain market) and then a different little hot/cold bar place. My lunch was chicken tikka masala, peach rings, and Dr Pepper. Yum!
We met up with everyone outside of European Union parliament for a tour/presentation (which may or may not have been slept through by like 75% of us😬). It was still really cool and we got to see the room where it all happens. I thought it was interesting that they explained that people aren’t seated by country but by party so from far left to far right. Ooh another thing was that they had pieces of the Berlin Wall outside which I thought was really cool! I guess that they put pieces all across Europe to represent unity and peace. Also they had a water machine in the building that used pedals and you could do cold, hot, or SPARKLING water. Crazy.
We headed back to city center after we were done at parliament and some of us visited the manekin pis museum where they keep all of his costumes haha. It was pretty funny.
Then we did some shopping of course, found a thrift store, jewelry store, and the cutest street with flower arches. We also got more frites of course! These ones were much better with the sauce on the side. There was this guy there letting pigeons eat his leftovers hahaha.
I headed back to the hotel where I proceeded to blog for many hours but I got it all done! Then Ellie and I wanted to head back out to find these strawberries with melted chocolate that we had been told about. We were successful! However… he rang us up and it was 9 EUROS. For like 6 strawberries. With melted chocolate. We were like in shock. Never again will I buy anything without knowing the price. I’m embarrassed 😔 they were really good strawberries but I def should have just bought strawberries at a store and melted my own chocolate. All of the strawberries here are beautiful! Ellie and I did get to see the lights at city square again which were much cooler than yesterday! So the night was (mostly) recovered (I am not allowed to spend any money tomorrow).
